Small Bathroom Remodel Ideas

Ten Small Bathroom Remodeling Ideas for South California Residents

Preparing for a bathroom makeover is challenging enough, but you need to be creative when it is a small bathroom remodel. Successful remodeling projects require a lot of planning, whether you’re considering cabinet refacing, bathtub and shower replacement, or a tub-to-shower conversion

Getting Started

Before you start, set clear goals to understand what your objective is. If you live in Orange County or Southern California, you can talk to one of our experts to discuss your ideas about your bathroom’s interior design. Check that everything you plan to do is legal and structurally sound.

A few things to consider at the start of your small bathroom makeover include:

  • Establish your goals for your bathroom remodel. Consult experts.
  • Set your budget and define how much everything will cost.
  • Choose the materials to fit your budget.
  • Design your layout so you know everything can fit in your small bathroom. Get a professional to do this. The position of your toilet is critical to get right in a small bathroom design.
  • Establish realistic timelines and expect the unexpected!

1. Choose Your Color Palette

Light colors are ideal for small rooms to give them a sense of space. Choosing neutral colors with little contrast can help to widen your bathroom and make it seem more prominent with features such as baseboards. Classic white bathrooms last and don’t go out of date. Remember, the colors for fixtures and cabinets can become dated if you choose unusual palettes.

Wainscoting is a way of adding contrast to your walls. It should be one-third of your wall at most to avoid making your bathroom seem smaller.

2. Shower or Bath?

Choosing between a shower or a bath will be one of your most important decisions. If you have a tub that never gets used, you can convert your tub to a shower. Think about your overall bathroom look and your desired layout. Do some research and then talk with the Reborn Bath Solutions team

Keep the following things in mind when deciding:

  • Do you have a shower curtain or glass shower door?
  • Is your shower a walk-in shower or combined with a bath?
  • Do you have a tiny bath and a shower, or a small bath combined with a shower?
  • Is your bath freestanding or attached to the wall?

3. Bathroom Storage is a Priority

Functionality is paramount in a bathroom, and adequate storage is a crucial aspect of that. Whether you opt for cabinet replacement or refacing, ensure that your new setup offers ample space to keep toiletries, towels, and other essentials organized and easily accessible.

Utilize vertical space to add more storage. One way to do this is by adding wall-mounted shelves to higher-up wall space. Open shelving is perfect for towels.

A floating vanity can create the appearance of space and give you room underneath to store things. Choose a custom countertop for your bathroom configuration and extend a narrow ledge behind your toilet for a little extra space.

A medicine cabinet with mirrors gives you somewhere safe to store medicines and cleaning supplies and creates the illusion of space from the mirrors. Use sliding doors on cabinets instead of doors that open outwards.

4. Choose Plenty of Light

Modern bathrooms have a lot of light. In a small space, light fixtures are crucial. Opt for at least two different lights to enhance the feel of your space and make it feel welcoming. Consider a central fixed light on the ceiling for overall illumination. Two wall-mounted sconces on either side of the mirror or vanity add a second light source and some warmth to the space.

5. Natural Light

A natural light source is a great way to open up a room. Having at least one window helps with ventilation and gives an illusion of extra space. It is also helpful for styling and applying makeup. For privacy, add some frosting or a curtain blind.

6. Choose Good-Quality Tiles

A small bathroom means you can splurge on your floor tiles since you have less square footage to cover. Since floors are subject to a lot of wear and tear, it is worth investing in good-quality bathroom titles that won’t chip and break easily. Large tiles with patterns help create an illusion of space and height in your bathroom. Match the color palette with your painted walls.

7. Fixtures and Hardware

Choosing the right fixtures and hardware for your bathroom decor is an important part of a bathroom renovation. If your remodeling project involves replacing fixtures like toilets, faucets, and showerheads, consider opting for water-efficient models. These fixtures can lead to substantial long-term cost savings on your utility bills beyond their environmental benefits.

A pedestal sink is a great space saver for areas without room for a bathroom vanity. Another popular option is a wall-mounted sink.

Fixtures like towel bars, faucets, and toilet paper holders provide functionality and bathroom decor. Select these to match the type of bathroom you want and place them so they don’t take up critical space.

8. Mirrors

A big mirror can create an illusion of space in a small bathroom. If you have enough wall space, invest in a large wall mirror to help broaden the room and reflect light. If space is tight, have a mirror added to your bathroom vanity.

9. Glass

Glass is a great material if you are conscious of cleanliness. Mold doesn’t grow on glass and is easy to keep clean. Tempered glass is four times stronger than regular glass. It is scratchproof and durable. It also helps open up space without visible walls.

10. Ventilation

Mold can grow in bathrooms with poor air circulation. Install a recessed ventilation fan to reduce the damp air in the bathroom. They look good without taking away critical space in a small bathroom.
